Living Trust Attorney

When searching for the right living trust attorney, you should consider three things:

1. Competence

Some lawyers act like they can do it all.  But the law is too complex and broad for any attorney to be a master at litigation and estate planning.  The law of wills, living trusts, powers of attorney, agency, probate, guardianship, conservatorship and health care planning is so complex that we learned early in our practice to focus our practice exclusively to helping folks with probate and estate planninbg.  Don’t trust your life and your assets to Legal ZoomTM or an attorney that only dabbles in living trusts.

To give you the shopping checklist when comparing attorneys, we can offer you a free review of your living trust to see if it has been keeping up with the changes in the law.  This 15-point review is an eye-opener.  You may find you paid your attorney to build you a bike instead of a car.

2.  Professionalism

Let’s face it, lawyers are known to be curt, shark-like and downright rude.  Is the law firm you are hiring going to have staff, systems and policies that ensure your experience is enjoyable?  That means the law firm must error on the side of the client when balancing the needs of the law firm with the needs of the client.  Each law firm, however big or small, has its own personality stemming from the personality of the partners.  Preparing your plan should not feel like a business deal.  Every part of the experience should make you feel like everything will go smoothly if you lose your mind or die.

3.  Price

We don’t try to be the cheapest.  We try to be the best.  Having said that, you want to know you received a good price on your plans.  We study our competition regularly so that we can always give you a competitive price while giving you the best service and product over any law firm or do-it-yourself company in the market.

Some law firms and do-it-yourself companies are the dollar store of estate planning.  They make their money on volume.  They don’t have the time to ensure that their documents are the top-of-the-line because they are too busy on the assembly line pumping out shoddy work.

Other firms cater to the ultra rich charging tens of thousands of dollars.  We’ve positioned ourselves at one point to serve the ultra rich, but at the end of the day, it’s more satisfying to work with middle-America.  That’s why we don’t look at your assets before giving you a quote for our fees.  See, there’s a dirty little secret at some law firms: they will quote their fee only after they’ve seen how much you’re worth.  Our fee levels are based on what you want to do in your planning, not how much you’re worth.  We think that’s more honest and our clients appreciate that we aren’t taking advantage of them.
